REDUCE START-UP CURRENT

Starter transformers

When switching on large electric motors, starting transformers are used to temporarily step-down voltages and thus reduce the starting current.

Starter transformers are mainly used for high-capacity motors to ensure a gentle start.

REDUCE STARTING CURRENT

In this regard, the motor voltage, starting from the lowest voltage, is incrementally increased with the starting progress. The magnetically induced inrush currents are not eliminated, they reoccur each time another phase is switched.

However, the start-up currents of longer duration are reduced through the inertia of the rotor and the load.
